No Longer in DGR

The individuals who have been working together as Deep Green Resistance Austin have left Deep Green Resistance, due to differences with the national organization. We will continue working under the ideals that brought us together. We are currently re-grouping and re-visioning our work in Austin. If you would like to contact us, send an email to revoalone[at]riseup[dot]net. This website will be decommissioned in the coming weeks.

Solidarity with Trans* & Gender Variant Peoples

DGR Austin is committed to supporting trans* and gender variant peoples, to combating transphobia and other forms of oppression visited on transpeople, and to making all of our spaces both welcoming and safe for trans* and gender variant people.

DGR Austin recognizes that trans* and gender variant peoples have historically been marginalized and excluded from many spheres of political action, including but not limited to organizing spaces, and as a group is committed to reversing that trend.

We also recognize that the exclusion of trans* and gender variant peoples extends far beyond the sphere of political culture and into health care, housing, food access, bathroom access, personal safety, employment, education and legal equality. DGR Austin is committed to ending these and all other oppressions of trans* and gender variant peoples at personal, structural and cultural levels.

We believe that the dominant systems of capitalism and industrialized civilization are upheld by and cannot exist without cis-supremacism, heterosexism, misogyny, classism, ableism and racism. We see the struggles against these evil systems of oppression as being intimately connected to one another and to the well-being of the planet as a whole. We believe that they can only be collectively eradicated through a systematic dismantling of the economic and social structures that support them, and through the creation of a culture of resistance that actively dismantles those intersecting networks of privilege.

Just as there is no safe place for the 120 species driven extinct every day, there is no safe place for trans* and gender variant people within industrial civilization and capitalism. Just as there is no freedom for the dammed rivers while those systems survive, there is no freedom for trans* and gender variant people without an end to those systems.

We recognize the importance of these groups in building the collaborative struggle to fight oppression at every level. We will not continue to perpetuate the divisive, horizontally hostile rhetoric that has characterized the left in years past.

We will fight together with trans* and gender variant peoples, and we will fight to win. And we will win — because everything depends on it.

For collective liberation,
Deep Green Resistance Austin

Radical Environmentalism & Anti-Civilization Discussion Circle #2

downy woodpecker

Please join Deep Green Resistance Austin for our second Radical Environmentalism & Anti-Civilization Discussion Circle.

We will be continuing our discussion of the twenty premises from Derrick Jensen’s monumental work ENDGAME. Last month’s session was very enjoyable – a heartfelt discussion about our hopes and fears as we come to grips with the fact that this way of life is over.

You can find the premises here: http://www.endgamethebook.org/Excerpts/1-Premises.htm

Tuesday, February 28th, 7pm, at Monkey Nest Coffee (5353 Burnet Rd., Austin, TX), in the conference room.

The premises begin with, “Civilization is not and can never be sustainable. This is especially true for industrial civilization.” They go on to explain how the dominant culture of industrial civilization is bent on destroying the living communities that make up our home, and why we must stop it – by any means necessary – if we are to live on a thriving planet.

Please read the twenty premises before the discussion group, and bring your questions, comments, concerns, objections, et cetera.

We will have copies of the premises available at the discussion.

What would you like to discuss for our third session? Leave a comment, or email dgraustin[at]riseup[dot]net.

Deep Green Resistance Group, Labeled ‘Eco-Terrorist,’ Speaks About Massive Nonviolent Campaign to Stop the 1%

Deep Green Resistance Group, Labeled ‘Eco-Terrorist,’ Speaks About Massive Nonviolent Campaign to Stop the 1%

Contact: Lierre Keith lierrekeith@yahoo.com  Aric McBay aric@aricmcbay.org (847) 773-7478

Saturday, February 11th at 1pm at 5604 Manor Road, Austin, TX, Deep Green Resistance (DGR) National Organizers will speak about a new campaign they are helping to organize called OCCUPY THE MACHINE (OTM). OTM is a coalition organizing nonviolent civil disobedience actions targeting fossil fuel based industries happening in the Spring and Summer the likes of which have not been seen since the Civil Rights movement. (DGR: OCCUPY THE MACHINE) They will also share DGR’s strategy to address planetary destruction drawn from the book, Deep Green Resistance, by Derrick Jensen, Aric McBay and Lierre Keith.

During the past two weeks there has been much misinformation about the ideology and actions of Deep Green Resistance Austin from covert sources and some inaccurate reporting. Private intelligence agency Stratfor has labeled DGR’s anti-oppression work, solidarity with indigenous groups, and defense of natural communities, “eco-terrorism.” (Strange Bedfellows, The Austin Chronicle, 2/3/12) (Political analysis company faces hacking accusations, The Daily Texan, 2/3/12) This claim is flatly untrue, as the speakers will make clear.

The event is hosted by DGR Austin. Attendees will also learn how to get involved with DGR Austin and attend local programs, including Edible Plant Walks and Monthly Discussion Groups.
Deep Green Resistance is the only radical movement of its kind working to stop the destruction of the planet. DGR’s vision for a sustainable future on a livable planet includes dismantling industrial civilization before it destroys all life. Industrial civilization will be replaced by thousands of cultures that will arise organically from and fully integrate themselves into their local ecosystems. Community-based, directly democratic communities are central to DGR’s vision of human society. Deep Green Resistance has a plan of action for anyone determined to fight for this planet—and win.

Edible & Medicinal Plant Walk #3

Sunday, Feb. 12th, 2pm. Hillside Theatre Zilker Park, 2206 William Barton Dr., in the Barton Springs Pool parking lot. Austin, Texas.

Our third Edible & Medicinal Plant Walk!

Do you feel like a tourist in our local forests? Are the trails painted with a sea of ‘green’? Wanna learn about your local plants and develop a deeper connection with them? There are many edible, medicinal, and otherwise useful plants right here in Central Texas! Wouldn’t you like to get to know them? Join DGR and some local naturalists for a free Edible and Medicinal Plant Walk. Donations are accepted and benefit DGR Austin.

We’ll meet near the Hillside Theatre, an outdoor stage, at the head of the Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail. If you can’t find us, call 512-537-3476.

Deep Green Resistance is a movement geared towards reestablishing our connection with the natural world, and dismantling the systems that are destroying our home. The walk will end with a brief discussion about how getting to know our land relates to the DGR strategy and analysis.

Our last walk was awesome. We had about 20 people show up! This month’s walk is sure to have even more of the small green edibles we saw last time so bring an appetite!

And bring your friends!

It’s come to the attention of Deep Green Resistance Austin that a group of individuals who may or may not be connected to Occupy Austin plan to hold a rally outside the offices of Stratfor, a locally based for-profit intelligence company that has had contact with undercover cops within the Occupy Austin movement and that has been speculating about our own organization from the outside – and incompetently so.

We distance ourselves from these individuals and their planned action. They are not members of Deep Green Resistance and do not represent Deep Green Resistance. We do not wish these individuals any ill will, but we believe their chosen course of action for tomorrow is immature, not strategic, and ineffectual in adequately addressing surveillance and repression. Denouncing state and corporate surveillance and repression in this way does not further our capacity to meaningfully resist it.

DGR Speakers in Austin 2/11

When: Saturday, February 11th from 1 – 4 pm

Where: Third Coast Activist/5604 Manor. 5604 Manor Road, Austin, 78723 -
5604manor.org

Deep Green Resistance starts where the environmental movement leaves off:
industrial civilization is incompatible with life. Technology can’t fix it, and shopping – no matter how green – won’t stop it. Those who profit from the death of the planet won’t cease voluntarily.

We are out of time. Another two hundred species went extinct today. And catastrophic climate change has begun.

If we really accept the seriousness of our situation, what would that mean for our strategy and tactics? Deep Green Resistance has an answer, a plan of action for anyone determined to fight for this planet – and win.

Come join us for an afternoon with local and national Deep Green Resistance organizers Premadasi Amada, Xander Knox and Dillon Thompson. We’ll be presenting the analysis and strategy of this budding movement, and discussing Occupy the Machine – Stop the 1%, an ad hoc umbrella coalition, spearheaded by DGR, that is organizing to shut down sites of destruction of the land
and people permanently using serious, sustained direct action campaigns.
